BLENHEIM, ON.– A historic 1955 Jaguar D-Type, chassis no. XKD 530, is among the latest highlights for RM Auctions’ highly anticipated Amelia Island, Florida sale, returning March 14 to the Ritz-Carlton. The official auction of the esteemed Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the single-day RM sale will lift the gavel on 100 automobiles and select memorabilia, including 14 vehicles with pre-sale estimates exceeding $1 million.

“Without question, this year’s catalogue represents the finest offering we’ve had the privilege of bringing to Amelia Island in the event’s 17-year history,” says Gord Duff, Car Specialist, RM Auctions. “Our strong track record at Amelia Island has proven it a fantastic venue for the sale of historic sports and racing cars, and the Jaguar D-Type is an outstanding addition to this year’s roster. We’re also thrilled to present the factory publicity and U.S.-homologation prototype Lamborghini Miura SV, another car of great historical significance. Collectors attending our Amelia Island sale can not only expect quality of product, but also the first-class customer service and presentation that has become synonymous with the RM experience.”

The Jaguar D-Type, XKD 530, joins the previously announced 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet as a headline attraction for this year’s Amelia Island sale. One of just 54 D-Types produced for privateer use, it was delivered new to famed Finnish tennis player, Curt Lincoln, who piloted the car to numerous 1st and 2nd place finishes throughout Finland, as well as in ice racing competition. A subsequent owner commissioned an extensively researched restoration by one of the world’s foremost Jaguar experts which was completed in 2003. Since then, it has run the Mille Miglia four times and has been invited to numerous top concours events, including the 2011 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Under its current ownership, the car has been carefully sorted, regularly exercised and maintained to ensure it is ready for reliable road or track use. Tremendously eligible for the world’s foremost racing and rally events, XKD 530 is offered with a FIVA Passport and FIA papers, along with a host of other important restoration and historic documentation (Est. $3,750,000 – $4,250,000).

“The Jaguar D-Type is one of the most iconic sports racing cars of the 1950s,” adds Shelby Myers, Car Specialist, RM Auctions. “With the prices of Italian endurance race cars currently soaring, the D-Type Jaguar represents incredible value, especially considering its historical significance and eligibility for the world’s great vintage motorsport events. We’re thrilled to have been entrusted with the sale of XKD 530 from its gentleman owner. It has a terrific provenance, is incredibly well-documented, and boasts a unique racing record which saw it tear across the Scandinavian ice fields in period.”

In addition to the D-Type, RM’s March 14 sale will also lift the gavel on a 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV and a highly desirable 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider.

One of just 21 Miura SV examples built specifically for the U.S. market, the 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV, chassis no. 4884, was the prototype built for EPA testing and the very first American SV sold. A factory publicity car, it appeared on the official factory brochure and was displayed at the 1971 Boston Auto Show, finished in the same (original) color combination as it is presented today. 4884 was eventually acquired by noted Lamborghini expert Joe Sackey, who commissioned a complete restoration prior to the car’s display at the 2006 Concorso Italiano where it was awarded First in Class honors. Among other accolades, it was chosen as the cover car for Sackey’s 2008 work, The Lamborghini Miura Bible, and has been featured in numerous magazines. Instantly recognizable to any Lamborghini aficionado, 4884 is one of the most significant, beautifully restored and authentic examples of all (Est. $2,250,000 – $2,750,000).

The 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider, chassis no. 15417, joins a group of 12 Ferraris slated for RM’s Amelia Island podium. One of a mere 121 genuine examples constructed, it was delivered new to the U.S. through the famed Luigi Chinetti Motors and spent time in several Midwestern collections before being acquired by Jeffery Schwartz of New Jersey in 1998. Schwartz commissioned a full restoration, refinishing the car in its original color combination of Nero over a brown leather interior with black Daytona seat inserts. Shown at the 2013 Cavallino Classic, the Spider received a Platinum Award, highlighting the supreme quality of its restoration almost 15 years after completion. This Ferrari Classiche certified Daytona Spider remains in excellent condition, ready for its next concours outing (Est. $3,000,000 – $3,500,000).

BLENHEIM, ON.- RM Auctions will present an incredibly diverse roster of 127 blue-chip motor cars and select memorabilia at its 2015 Arizona sale. Returning to the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, January 15 – 16, entries for the 16th annual auction span the spectrum of the market, upholding the company’s reputation for presenting the finest examples of the world’s most iconic brands. The Arizona catalogue includes everything from prewar classics, through to important sports and racing cars, late-model supercars and emerging collectibles.

The offering is highlighted by a superb group of 21 Ferraris. Setting the pace is a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM, chassis no. 5899 GT, delivered new to Switzerland’s most storied racing team, Scuderia Filipinetti. In line with the model’s track record, Filipinetti’s first two outings in 5899 GT posted winning results with top Ferrari Formula One drivers Ludovico Scarfiotti and Nino Vaccarella piloting the car to 1st overall finishes at the Sierre-Montana Crans Hill Climb and the XV Coppa Inter-Europa in Monza. 5899 GT remained hugely successful with its second and third owners, garnering numerous podium finishes and class wins through the summer of 1967. A complete list of 5899 GT’s racing accomplishments will be available in the catalogue.

In more recent years, 5899 GT has been campaigned on the vintage racing circuit, and was granted Ferrari Classiche Certification in 2005. A surefire entrant into historic racing and concours events around the globe, it is presented in its original Scuderia Filipinetti livery, and offered with an unbroken chain of ownership from an impressively curated collection of other equally rare and important Ferraris. Estimated to fetch in excess of $9,500,000, this 250 LM is expected to be among the most valuable automobiles on offer during the 2015 Arizona auction week.

“Our Arizona sale offers some of the most desirable models across the board. From custom coachbuilt touring cars to poster cars of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, everything is represented,” says Ian Kelleher, Managing Director, RM Auctions West Coast Division. “While rare Ferraris of the 1960s like the 250 LM and 365 GTS continue to command high prices in response to sustained demand, we’re also expecting to see great things from emerging collectibles with important motorsport heritage such as the Audi Sport Quattro.”
