Carved from a single piece of fine quality, translucent agate, fully utilizing the banded nature of the original rough to render the primate, with brown to the back, graduating to translucent grey to the front. The virtuoso craftsmanship of these carvings is best seen in the rendering of the hands and faces–in this case the observer can easily see the extreme fineness with which they have been carved.
