A Japanese Pronk ‘Dame au parasol’ plate, circa 1738-40. Estimate 4,000 – $6,000 USDPhoto Christie’s Image Ltd 2015.

Enameled after the well-known design of Dutch artist Cornelis Pronk, the reverse decorated with iron-red insects; 9 ¼ in. (23.5 cm.) diameter

Note: V.O.C. records show repeated attempts to have the Pronk patterns made at a commercial price in Japan, but they were all unsuccessful and in fact the entire Pronk venture was abandoned after a few years due to narrow profit margins. See C.J.A. Jorg, Pronk Porcelain, pp. 71-3.
