An Elizabeth I silver-gilt mounted salt-glazed Rhenish « tigerware » jug, maker’s mark possibly that of a mullet between a pair of compasses overstruck by another, London 1575. Estimate £12,000 – 18,000 (€15,000 – 23,000). Photo Bonhams.

Globular with cylindrical neck, loop handle and mottled brown glaze, the spreading foot embossed with alternate panels of flowers and lobes, collar and hinged cover chased with similar decoration, and the cover also applied with a fluted disc and ornate thumb-piece, prick-dot engraved on side handle junction « PW » over « M », height 24cm.
