A RARE BLUE AND WHITE VASE, YUHUCHUNPING, XIANFENG MARK AND PERIOD

The design of bamboo, plantain and rocks has been much favoured by Chinese literati and is found on porcelains as early as the Hongwu period. The design was revived during the Qing Dynasty and continued to be used throughout the 19th century. Of the rare examples bearing a Xianfeng mark, compare a vase of this shape and design illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Blue and White Porcelain with Underglaze Red (III), Hong Kong, 2010, vol. 36, cat. no. 153.
