An extremely rare Yaozhou melon shaped ewer, Song dynasty. Photo Paragon International Auctioneers

H: 29 cm. The lobed body raised on a spreading foot, rising to a wide flaring trumpet neck, with two bands of incised bowstring below the shoulder and on the middle of the body, a long curved spout issuing from the body opposite to a c-shaped strap handle. Yaozhou ware with this shape is very rare, similar ewer would often see in the Jingdezhen kiln Qinbai ware, a similar shaped ewer from Jindezhen please see Rose Kerr, Song Dynasty Ceramics, London, 2004, p.96-97, no.97.
